Good day today on tour as we had 5 games total. Boys C started off the day with a poor game as they lost 3-2 to a Romanian team. They played scared as the Romanians were physical and the fields were soaked as we had rainy and cold conditions. Austin and Tino led the way with goals and all 4 teams were in attendance watching and cheering.
The Boys A played next at the same complex and dominated a Bulgarian team 2-0. Score should have been more lopsided but we did have a few scares until Ceasar pulled out two point blank saves. Alex and Daniel Spell tallied the goals.
Busses today were on time and organized, for the most part and after lunch the girls teams had their chance to play. Girls C went first and won over the host Austrian club 2-0 with goals by Amanda and Lauren. The field was small and made it difficult to play our possession game but they played better as the match wore on.
The Girls A played the East German Womens Team, Ha, Ha, as they played a huge and over aged Austrian team. We won 1-0 on a free kick goal by Amber but they played quite well. Not good enough for the coaches, but that is usually the case.
The Boys C had one more game today as an Albanian team joined the group and they might be sorry they did as we pounded them 12-1. Yes, 12-1 and it could have been worse.
In between games today most kids joined the staff for a walk into town and a stop at the internet cafe and the grocery store for gatorade. Most of the kids called home so we should be all caught up by now. We had a few lessons today as we are still picking up after people and reminding them of their responsibilities. 2 of our players were confined to their room for losing their meal tickets and this cost Andrew a chance to play in his game and for Gianna some time alone. Upon our return, they displayed their meal cards and a sense of relief was visibly seen on their faces. Upon our return from the evening games, a long heart to heart with the kids regarding 3 things that we preached on tour; Responsibility, Preparation, and Organization.
Ask them about this chat when you have a minute. We also spoke about gaining respect from the host and just as we were talking about this, the kitchen staff commended us on our conduct and then asked us if were still hungry for another dinner. Well the answer was heard in an instant, YES, and we were the only group in the school to eat a 2nd meal at 9 pm. It also showed the kids what benefits can come with good conduct, a great lesson and great timing.
Kids were trading tshirts and pins in the halls with other kids and the interaction has been very good. We even saw about 30 of our kids outside practicing, playing small sided games, and playing kids from other countries. Rain was touch and go today and the sun was out for awhile and we hope to have it return for Wednesday as we have 4 more games tomorrow.
